Isn’t that the goal to eat great food everyday? I just finished reading a fabulous new cookbook that I was given to review called Great Food! by Ron and Devora Eisenberg along with their fabulous staff of chef’s that teach at Great News! Cooking School in Pacific Beach, California. To tell you the truth, being an east coast girl, I had never heard of it. If I had I would have been sure to take a class there when I was in San Diego a few years ago. The recipes are drool worthy and in addition they divided by seasons so you can take advantage of the freshest seasonal ingredients when they are at their peak of freshness and flavor.
Throughout the book Ron gives wonderful tips for the tools of the trade that make preparing food so much easier. Of course this goes hand in hand with the kitchenwares shop that started it all. Great News! Cookware and Cooking School opened in the late 70′s when Ron and his late wife Carol moved to sunny California to get away from the harsh weather in Ohio where they had lived with their three kids and two dogs. What started as a functional housewares store with an alternative greeting card section slowly gave way to cookware only store. After fighting a 7 year battle with terminal breast cancer Carol passed in May of 1996 and Ron threw himself into the building of his first cooking school in the space that had held the greeting cards. Their reputation for great products and outstanding service is legendary and in 2011 Great News! won the prestigious award Best Kitchenware Retailer in the USA. That same year they were also nominated for International Retailer of the Year.
Today with his lovely wife Devora, who he married in 2002, the business continues to thrive. Now the cooking school features a state of the art kitchen that is the perfect blend of home kitchen and professional kitchen with nine to ten classes a week. Treat yourself to this wonderful new cookbook Great Food! that is jam packed with easy to make yummy recipes.
